Hey guys,

we’ve decided to let go of Trac, SVN and Assembla.
In the future we’ll be using git at GitHub and move the Wiki and bugtracking there.

We hope this will make a few things easier. Especially the spam on the bugtracker should be gone this way and theres no need to sign up with Assembla anymore.

The page and all links will be updated very soon.

You can find the repo here: http://github.com/gfireproject/gfire

Good news for all you toolbar haters out there!

Today, also Mozilla has accepted our addon for their official addons page. You can from now on get the addon from here or simply open about:addons and search for “gfire” to get it.

NiveusLuna is going to maintain it on the gallery just like he does for the Chrome Extension on Googles Chrome Web Store.

There it has been available for a few weeks already, so if you missed that, check it out here!

I’m glad I finally managed to release 0.9.4 now! This is mainly a bug fix release and should’ve come much earlier. Sorry, but my time was either quite limited or my computer didn’t have the tools installed to ship all packages etc. during the last two weeks.

The only visible change is that your NAT type is now displayed in the about window. Most of the rest is once again P2P related. This release also fixes the bug which caused a crash if game detection was disabled on 0.9.3 and introduces a new compile flag which allows Gfire to be easily used on embedded system like it is on WebOS for the Palm Pre and server systems. This could also be of use for finch users and could make it easy to integrate Gfire into spectrum which could offer a Xfire XMPP transport this way.

Full release notes can be found here.

Due to todays Xfire update, which brought a little protocol change, I am somewhat forced to release 0.9.3. I was very close to this anyway, so it doesn’t hurt.

This release contains once again mostly bugfixes as I’m getting close to my limits on new features. You might find that there is a “Server Browser” on your account menu now. This shows you Xfire’s list of game servers for the games you have installed and the query drivers I managed to implement yet.
If you recognize that a game which Xfire supports is missing, please tell me.

I have already built the usual packages for Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE and Windows. The packages on the PPA are still in the build queue but should be available very soon.
Thanks to NiveusLuna, I can provide you with Fedora packages again as well.

The release notes can be found here.

Hi Guys,

Its been a very very long time since I posted something last on Gfire or did anything for Gfire. I am writing to tell that after over 2 years work with Gfire, its time for me to leave the project.

Gfire is now at a stage where I am no longer needed. Back in March 2008, myself and Luxus took over Gfire in a poor state. No website, no community and the Gfire code was a year old and Gaim had gone, with Pidgin the new IM client.

Within months, we managed to release Gfire 0.7.0, which allowed Gfire to work with Pidgin. We had a new website, forums and IRC room, which helped quick create a new community for Gfire.

My aim for the Project was to restart Gfire, regain our community back, and get Gfire to version 1.0.0. I have now achieved all my goals, with Gfire 1.0.0 not far way. I am sure Warren and oGGy can lead Gfire into the future, past version 1.0.0 and maybe past Pidgin!

I now leave to take on new endeavours. Carry on University at Derby, UK. Continue to write on my blog. I’m still writing for Full Circle Magazine and from Monday, I will be working for Ubuntu Gamer!

Some of you have been asking for updates as well as our stable releases on Warrens PPA repository. Unfortunately Warren doesn’t have that much time currently and additionally his VM somehow doesn’t boot up (Lucid is horrible in VirtualBox anyway), so he can’t manage it at the moment.

Thus we have created a new PPA which is based on a newly created Gfire team at Launchpad, which will ship important commit updates as well as every stable version of Gfire.

Instructions on how to use it can be found on the PPA website: https://launchpad.net/~gfire/+archive/gfire.

The stable package carries the name pidgin-gfire and the unstable package is named pidgin-gfire-svn. Currently both contain the same source code of Gfire 0.9.2 but choosing the unstable one will give you intermediate updates later on.

You’ve probably already seen the news on Twitter. I am leaving Gfire. Lately I wasn’t that active anymore on the project. That is the main reason that I leave Gfire. I am sure Oliver, Warren and Ed will do great to push the project forward without me.

Before I end this blog post I want to thank some people. I want to thank Ed especially because he took over the project together with me. Of course I want thank Oliver and Warren too, they helped me with a lot of problems I couldn’t solve and brought a lot of new features to Gfire. In the community I want to thank 2 remarkable active members Boosted and Ben. Thank you all!
