Ubuntu
Install instructions for PPA (recommended)
- Run the following commands from within a terminal:
- sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gfire/gfire
- sudo apt-get update
- Start Synaptics and search for “pidgin-gfire“.
- Install the package you’d like to use.
Manual install instructions
- Make sure you have uninstalled the package “gfire” from the Ubuntu repos.
- Download one of the packages from the right.
- Double click on the file; the package should be installed automatically.
- (Re)start Pidgin and add your Xfire account.

Windows
Install instructions (EXE)
- Download the .exe file from the right.
- Close any currently open Pidgin instance.
- Double click the file and follow the installation wizard.
- Start Pidgin again and add your Xfire account.
Portable install instructions (ZIP)
- Download the .zip file from the right.
- Close any currently open Pidgin instance.
- Move the .zip file to the installation directory of Pidgin (yours might be different):
- Stock Pidgin: C:\Program Files\Pidgin
- PortableApps: E:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin (Where ‘E’ is the drive of your PortableApps USB Drive)
- Extract the archive in place. Be careful not to create an extra subdirectory with your decompression software.
- Start Pidgin again and add your Xfire account.
