New PPA for Gfire!

Some of you have been asking for updates as well as our stable releases on Warrens PPA repository. Unfortunately Warren doesn’t have that much time currently and additionally his VM somehow doesn’t boot up (Lucid is horrible in VirtualBox anyway), so he can’t manage it at the moment.

Thus we have created a new PPA which is based on a newly created Gfire team at Launchpad, which will ship important commit updates as well as every stable version of Gfire.

Instructions on how to use it can be found on the PPA website:  https://launchpad.net/~gfire/+archive/gfire.

The stable package carries the name pidgin-gfire and the unstable package is named pidgin-gfire-svn. Currently both contain the same source code of Gfire 0.9.2 but choosing the unstable one will give you intermediate updates later on.

Luxus’s Sign Off

Hi all,

You’ve probably already seen the news on Twitter. I am leaving Gfire. Lately I wasn’t that active anymore on the project. That is the main reason that I leave Gfire. I am sure Oliver, Warren and Ed will do great to push the project forward without me.

Before I end this blog post I want to thank some people. I want to thank Ed especially because he took over the project together with me. Of course I want thank Oliver and Warren too, they helped me with a lot of problems I couldn’t solve and brought a lot of new features to Gfire. In the community I want to thank 2 remarkable active members Boosted and Ben. Thank you all!

Laurent

Fixing small problems with the Gfire website

The new Gfire website has been very problematic. Mainly we the new splash screen and news section. Finally, the splash screen is working and the news has a place on the website! Sadly had to delete all the old bits of news to fix the last f the problems.

Gfire 090 is coming along very nicely, we don’t want to set a beta release date yet, however it should be soon. It will be our first open beta! The beta will be available via the SVN or PPA. So if you can compile from source or have a Ubuntu machine, you can join the beta!

I am planning to do a user’s point of view of Gfire 090 in the next few days, so you all know what to look forward to!
